AirForce Test

The aviation industry might have the most stringent selection tests of any industry. Flying multi million dollar airplanes isn’t suited for just anyone. The objective of these pilot selection tests is to assess pilots prior to selection by an airline in order to provide an overall assessment of the general skills of candidates. In general you will be tested on six key flying aptitudes that a good pilot needs for his profession.

Overview of Tests

  • Control: A compensation task
looking at basic hand / foot / eye co-ordination.
  • Slalom: A tracking task
looking at hand / eye co-ordination.
  • Mathematics:
A test of basic applied mathematical understanding and speed.
  • Memory:
Accuracy of short-term memory recall and ability to ‘chunk’ information.
  • Task Manager:
A test of the candidate’s ability to scan the screen and manage two concurrent tasks accurately and quickly.
  • Orientation:
Instrument interpretation, comprehension and spatial orientation.

You first need to pass several tests before you can even apply for the academy. Flying experience is not required to perform well in the tests. Fibonicci has a practice test that allows you to prepare for the instrument comprehension test.
